Awesome salary, but a huge spectrum of quality of people

Pros
  1. High salary and, if you're lucky, you will find very smart and talented people.

  2. I'll put work-life balance in the pros. Shocking? In my seven years at Amazon, I realized it depends on how much you value your life outside of work. Amazon, in most situations, will not prefer an insanely hard-working person over a person who works at a normal, or sometimes even a slow, pace.

Cons
  1. Directors do not care about feedback and pain points in their organizations. They primarily manage up.

  2. The quality of people and discussions varies within every director and senior SDM, and you can find either the best or the worst minds in the industry.

Advice to Management

Hire better product managers by enforcing a strict policy of X years of product experience. Bad or new product managers take a hit on overall productivity. The bar for SDE2 to SDE3 promotion has lowered in the last 2 years, leading to wrong expectations from junior engineers and poor software quality.
