Interviews at AMD are on a per-team basis with no standard way of conducting them. I interviewed with several hiring managers.
The manager who ultimately hired me asked general questions about processors, such as:
- How can you make a processor faster?
- What does a CMOS transistor look like?
The rest of the interview was more casual and conversational.
For entry-level positions, it seems most managers are looking for engineers who are friendly and able to work collaboratively to learn their roles.

Dress code is non-existent, and I sometimes wear shorts and a t-shirt to work. Great benefits and decent pay. An onsite gym is a nice perk, as well as the onsite cafeteria. The Lone Star campus in Austin is beautiful.Cons: Some of the internal processes are a bit convoluted and poorly documented, but this varies from team to team. Each team is managed independently of the rest, so there is quite a bit of variation in how your day-to-day work goes depending on who your manager is. Different teams solve problems in different ways, so it's not always easy to use another team's solution for a similar problem.
