Software Engineer Interview Experience

Process

I was informed a few days beforehand about an interview scheduled for a specific day, with the understanding that the exact time would be provided the day before.

This arrangement seemed absurd, so I reached out to the recruiter to inquire about flexibility due to a particularly busy week. Unfortunately, the recruiter never responded.

There were two interview rounds: behavioral and technical.

The behavioral interview went very well; the engineer was kind and personable.

The technical interview, however, was a disaster. The interviewer not only sent LeetCode questions over chat but also required me to write class, method, and import statements to get their poorly-built IDE to compile, which was an unnecessary waste of time. He did not answer any questions, spoke over me when I attempted to respond, and experienced poor Wi-Fi, causing constant lag.

While the questions themselves were not particularly difficult (LeetCode Medium at most), his interviewing style significantly hindered my ability to solve the problems within the allotted time.

Overall, it was an extremely negative experience, and I was not surprised by the rejection.
