Pros

People in engineering teams are great to work with.

Great initial days.

Newly formed teams are great. Not so much the same for teams with directors who have been in the company for more than 10 years. They do not connect with people well.

Cons

Well, where do I start?

Politics is clearly visible in every decision taken, including how parking spaces are allocated.

As for progressions, if you are a woman, make sure you dress and make up well to be recognized by inexperienced engineering directors (well, they do not do engineering, by the way; they are team leaders conducting 1-1s). And in recent years, 1-1 has been the most important meeting for anyone in Burgess Hill.

Gentlemen, be prepared for your skills, experience, and creative ideas to be overlooked if you think skills, expertise, and experience are criteria for progression. Glorified leaders are looking for something additional, which will not be your core skill that you are in the company for.

Don't blame the directors, though; it is a few engineers who encourage them by giving importance which is unnecessary.

Which organizations allocate double parking spaces for leadership and deny a single parking space to other employees at lower bands?

Team meetings are nothing but a joke. And again, they are really high up in appraisal criteria.

Advice to Management
