Pros
  • Relaxed atmosphere.
  • Company genuinely cares about its colleagues and Cardmembers.
  • Great company for people with families.
  • You can stay in the company 20 years and do 10 very different jobs; there's lots of variety between roles.
  • Company genuinely cares about inclusion and diversity. It feels like a very safe place to work. Inclusion and diversity policies do not feel tokenistic, unlike a lot of other companies.
  • CEO leads the company with vision and compassion, especially through Covid-19. The company didn't make a single colleague redundant in 2020 through the crisis.
  • Some very capable engineers here who are also very willing to help you grow. Even engineers in other teams will always make the time for you if you need technical expertise, mentorship, or a general chat.
  • 9-5 is standard for engineers unless you're at director level.
Cons

Tech salaries aren't that competitive compared to other London-based financial services companies.

Departments are often siloed, and change can be fairly slow-paced. If you want a fast-moving and agile tech company, Amex is probably not for you.
