I applied through a recruiter.
The process began with an engineering manager going through the challenges of the role and trying to intimidate applicants. Ultimately, he was more interested in that than finding out my qualifications. The interview process continues with multiple stages of interviews and possibly a trip out to California. Ultimately, a three-month onboarding process in California is required to become familiar with the equipment.
