Process

I spoke with the recruiter and six team members. I was asked a mix of technical, coding, and experience-based questions, and the overall interview experience was fairly positive.

However, interacting with the recruiter after the interviews was unpleasant. They were extremely high-pressure and persistent, repeatedly asking me what salary I would be willing to accept. They put consistent pressure on me, asking a total of seven times over the course of one conversation. They stated they needed this information because they didn't want to extend an offer if I requested a salary higher than they were prepared to offer. Naturally, I politely refused, as I wanted an offer but didn't want to undervalue myself.

They then ruthlessly tried to diminish my perceived value by criticizing my resume and past experiences in an attempt to elicit a low number. This continued for two weeks before they finally presented an offer.

I have never been treated so poorly by a company that intended to hire me. This recruiter gave me the impression that the company culture does not value its employees and attempts to extract every possible dollar from them. Hopefully, this recruiter was an isolated incident, but the experience was unpleasant enough that I chose to decline the offer.
