Hardware Test Software Engineer Interview Experience - Cupertino, California

Process

The interview process began with a quick phone screen asking about basic C++ and object-oriented principles.

I then scheduled a conditional first day of interviews, with a potential conditional second day.

The entire process was very disorganized. They did not bill the rental car or hotel to Apple correctly, so I had to float that money upfront. Twelve weeks later, I am still trying to get reimbursed from an unresponsive interview coordinator.

As others have mentioned, the interviewers were barely prepared. At least three interviewers did not show up. Some were too busy on their phones to pay attention. All who did show up emphasized that you would be working long hours and have to do a lot of travel. The interviewers themselves projected weariness.

Even if I had gotten an offer, I don't think this would have been a good group to join.

Questions

Google recently removed certain types of brainteasers from their interviews. These were questions where you either knew the answer or you didn't. I did not practice brainteasers while preparing, so I performed poorly on these. I interview a lot of people, and I can't understand what this team gains from asking these questions.

If you find yourself studying brainteasers to get a job, that's a sign that the interview process is absurd.

  • Code an in-place linked list reverse
  • Code an STL iterator
  • Brainteasers
