Process

2 Phone Screens Followed by a 5-Hour Onsite Discussion with Several People + Director

Phone Screen 1:

  • Looked at my resume, asked basic questions.
  • "How would you troubleshoot if a CSFB call fails?"
  • "Test cases for Toaster."
  • Seemed positive about my skillset.

Phone Screen 2:

  • Call flow starting from mobile switch ON.
  • "How would you troubleshoot MMS/Data throughput?"
  • "What to look for in Wireshark logs?"

Received a schedule for the onsite interview a week later.

Onsite Interview:

Round 1:

  • Explained overall LTE network architecture.
  • Which entities are involved in a CSFB call?
  • What elements are involved in a VoLTE/IMS call?
  • Effect of latency on throughput.
  • Basic troubleshooting cases.
  • One interviewer started posing hypothetical situations, while another started laughing (should have been more professional).

Round 2:

  • Developer asked about programming knowledge.
  • "Have you developed any tools?"
  • Knowledge of automation - tool usage.

Round 3:

  • "How would you troubleshoot data?"
  • Basic cellular questions.
  • Interviewer seemed stressed and in a hurry.

Round 4 (Lunch Round):

  • No proper time given to eat; questions were asked continuously.
  • Call flow.
  • Troubleshooting data/MMS, etc.
  • Test/QA project management situations.
  • Was informed that the workload is high, requiring extra hours and often weekend work.

Round 5:

  • Interviewed by a different team under the same department.
  • Seemed unprepared to conduct the interview, asking random, vague questions.
  • Displayed an attitude, stating they work for Apple.

Round 6:

  • LTE call flow.
  • "How to test data - think of some quick test cases."
  • The Director jumped in midway, in a hurry, focusing on education and experience working in the US.
  • Later, the Director seemed confused if my skillset could fit another team instead of the one I was scheduled for onsite (lack of prior sync before reviewing resume).

Round 7:

A mix of the above rounds.

I answered most of the questions. A few days later, I received a rejection.
