Pros

Working on something relevant and respected means the best and the brightest stick around, even if it's not the highest compensated place to work. Intelligence is thick there, and it's easy to learn something you are interested in directly from the person who designed it.

Cons

The older employee base means there aren't very many social opportunities, as colleagues often go home to their families rather than meeting socially.

Employee satisfaction is not a top priority among upper management, because "You don't work here for the money."

Short-term product cycles get in the way of long-term investing. For example, offices are crammed with two or more people, and the new campus construction has been delayed by two years.

Advice to Management

In a company where talent and intellectual property are so important, yearly bonuses and patent bonuses are quite literally a joke. You would do well to increase those performance-based incentives.
