Process

Contacted by the TA person. Didn't have the HR interview, which is usually the first step. This was because I had already had an HR interview as part of the interview process for another job position. An interview was scheduled.

The second step was the interview with two individuals: the hiring manager and a team lead in that group. Lovely people.

It started by a round of introductions where they shared a bit of their personal lives as well. Further, they asked about my experiences, motivations for this position, my achievements, and challenges, both with projects and people.

They tried really hard by pushing me off-balance by questioning my career direction; mentioning that they thought I would like to go into PM or R&D. I explained to them that, in fact, I do have background in those areas and reworded to better explain my perspective.

When I pushed enthusiastically to learn about the machine, they corrected me by pointing out that ASML hires top talent to work on machines. I rebutted by saying that I agree that top talent works on the machines. However, the function requires at least a rudimentary understanding of the product to help communicate the various aspects with various functions.

The last 20 minutes (of a 1-hour long interview) was given for me to ask questions, and they answered candidly.

My suggestion is to paint a picture for them, explain as a story, try to be positive, jolly, and smiling. Be honest if you don't understand the machine or technology. And try to build some understanding of how you will engage with them, the team, or ASML.
