Pros

As a software engineer, access to multitudes of technology stacks and many wonderful software mistakes await to be unraveled and fixed.

Cons

Outsourcing and re-badging throughout the latter half of the 2010s made the company an awkward place to work as a software engineer, particularly if you were engaged in the delivery of solutions meant to be used outside of your immediate reporting chain.

Reporting chains are still very deep. An initiative to migrate as much as possible from on-prem to Microsoft Azure cloud has been underway for over two years now. There is more emphasis on applying additional constraints in how cloud resources are used than there is actually an emphasis on making applications work in the cloud.

Advice to Management

If you want to make day-to-day more nimble, try other techniques such as removing heavy-weight burdens and allowing software engineers to work freely.
