Process
After a quick screening video call, there were 5 steps in the interviews:
- 2 technical interviews
- 1 system design interview
- 2 behavioral interviews
The process was very long, but they kept me in the loop very well.
Overall, it was a pleasant experience. They gave plenty of feedback and prepared me for the next interviews.
Questions
- JavaScript focused, with an emphasis on Promises.
- Browser coding, thinking in components and testability.
- System design, including wireframing, technology selection (and justification), and API/request/response design.
- Behavioral interviews: come prepared with stories that showcase Atlassian's values. One story should be general, and another should be more focused on the technical aspects of development.

Pros: - Good pay in the Australian market.
- Still better than most companies to work for, even with difficulties surviving here.
Cons: - Too many strategy changes in the short term, ambiguous long-term goals.
- Too much expected from ICs in terms of task variety and task complexity.
- Everybody is on their toes due to performance reviews.
- Performance reviews killed the culture in a short time period.

Pros: Great people and great remuneration!
Cons: Atlassian’s biggest flaw isn’t the tech, it’s the management. Instead of building trust or giving clear direction, they try to “motivate” people through pressure and fear.
The result? Teams constantly scrambling, rushing features just to hit arbitrary dates. Corners get cut, bugs slip through, and everyone’s too anxious to speak up. It’s not innovation—it’s survival.
