Senior Backend Engineer Interview Experience - Bengaluru, India

Process

I applied through a portal and received a call from HR. As per the process, there are five rounds:

  • Coding Round
  • DS and Algo
  • System Design
  • Core Values
  • Behavioral

I appeared in the first two rounds, and my experience was quite negative. The interviewer seemed to be looking for specific knowledge and wanted me to approach problems in a particular way. They didn't provide the complete problem statement at once. Each time additional criteria were introduced, it required more time to solve the problem. It's not always possible to provide a running solution immediately, as communicating the approach is also important during the interview process.

Overall, it was a bad experience because everyone has their own way of solving problems, and the same applies to coding style. If an interviewer doesn't like modular code or cannot understand it, it doesn't necessarily mean the candidate is not good. A candidate is only not good if they are unable to solve the problem or provide a solution with poor complexity.
