Software Engineer Interview Experience - Melbourne, Australia

October 1, 2023

Process

The first one was on Karat, which was quite easy. The next two were coding challenges. They were good and not too difficult; I completed the implementation and tests.

I was still rejected because I didn't share the trade-offs of the solution.

Atlassian Work Experiences

Atlassian is a great company with great people

Software Engineer • Current Employee

Pros: - The people, the people, the people - The large product suite (Bitbucket, Trello, Confluence, etc.) - The founders' vision

Cons: The pay is not competitive. The company thinks it is very competitive on salary, but it is not. Over my 3 years at the company, I received: * A year-long company-wide pay freeze. * A pretty big pay cut (we're talking 20%) while moving locations. * Our stock price crushed by the market. There is no real focus on reliability and performance. I don't think the company as a whole really understands how this is preventing us from achieving our goals (100m MAU, 25k employees).

Still great, but slowly trending towards mediocrity

Software Engineer • Former Employee

Pros: The culture is incredible. The values are real and used everyday. Work-life balance is incredible (though it will vary from team to team). People actually try to work together rather than engaging in politics. Great remote policy and leave benefits. I would still go back.

Cons: They've more than doubled in size recently, and the culture is certainly trending towards being less open and more corporate. HR is increasingly less of your friend.

Cons: None that I can think of
