Software Engineer (Internship) Interview Experience - Sydney, Australia

April 1, 2023

Neutral ExperienceNo Offer

Process

My interview took over two months to complete due to HR layoffs.

I completed the online assessment and had to wait an entire month for the technical interview.

After that, I waited a further two weeks for the behavioral interview (management and values).

I then waited another two weeks to hear back after the behavioral interview.

Questions

The Technical Interview presented a fairly simple file collection system. Given a list of files, with their sizes and the collections they belong to, the task was to find the total size of the file system and the top 'n' collections by size.

Pros: Amazing people & culture. This company knows and applies the best strategies to build a great business, supported by hiring talented individuals who believe in their values and organizing them into autonomous teams that have the freedom to innovate and shape the company’s future. Atlassian, by far, is the best place I’ve worked for in my career. And I’ve worked in many great companies.

Cons: The challenges facing Atlassian are common with many other companies in a similar situation. Growth is painful and has a tax on teams and individuals. Atlassian is growing rapidly and facing those challenges of how to maintain a healthy balance between business growth and maintaining the same great culture and benefits that everyone enjoys.
