It can be daunting to work in an autonomous environment; it's tricky to influence other teams to do things you need.
Not all teams' processes are as you would expect, but this is covered by the fact that all the team members are good.
Discussions are via Confluence. If you are used to more in-person/real-time comms, moving a lot of discussions to async Confluence can take a while to get used to.
Just keep being true to your beliefs. It's a great feeling working for a company that really cares about its employees. It really makes you think about your own values and goals and is definitely a big factor in me wanting to make my career here.
Team Anywhere does make it tricky for new starters to get that sense of belonging to a wider group. It takes more time to build those relationships, and it's hard to extend outside your direct team (especially with a lot of discussions happening async over Confluence).
This is not just a management issue; it will take everyone to help create an environment that helps foster this. But it's a learning journey for everyone, and that's what Atlassian does well. They may not always get it right on the first attempt, but actively work to improve things over time. So I know we will eventually solve this one too.
