Great benefits, but can be toxic

Pros
  • Great benefits.
  • Work-life balance is among the top in the industry (however, this is currently changing).
  • Great team culture.
Cons
  • Partially, you can be exposed to toxic "woke culture." For example, a transgender coworker wreaked absolute havoc on X after leaving, despite receiving the best treatment. A project manager blamed you for not sharing the same "woke" views in a very aggressive way. The CEO was attacked on an internal article just for mentioning Web3. All of this happened with zero countermeasures.
  • Close to zero promotion options if you are a mobile developer.
  • Some coworkers were dozing off, being little to no productive, with no countermeasures taken.
  • Engineers who got promoted as managers had little to no experience and made life so much harder.
  • No clear vision for mobile apps.
  • Some engineers were not really collaborative, or worse, tried actively to jeopardize work.

All the above was communicated to management, who seldomly took any actions to resolve conflicts, fire people who were clearly not fit for the role, or improve culture otherwise.

Advice to Management
  • Address black sleeps.
  • Take feedback from other engineers seriously.
  • Do not hire toxic people. Find a way to address and discover it.
  • People can have diverse opinions and agree to disagree, but don't need to be voiced toxically.
  • Keep true to the core values of Atlassian. Continue to foster a good engineering culture.
