They care about employees.
Perhaps a bit lower on salaries than other companies, but with a good overall compensation package. There were quite a few (six) levels of management for an engineer in the group I was in.
To a higher degree, give engineers the chance to transition to new technologies (desktop to web) instead of firing and hiring new ones.
