There were two interviewers from different departments. One was doing work related to databases.

They asked about my background first. Then, they required me to write code on a whiteboard by hand.

Questions included bubble sort, recursion in Java, and what a dictionary is in Python. If you have a large amount of data, what is the problem with recursion?

Pros: My first team had good team and company processes. I learned a lot. No OT (sometimes I did, but it was totally voluntary), and friendly colleagues.

Cons: The typical downsides of a heavily regulated industry apply here. This means longer time to release code, more documentation for code changes, etc. I have also heard from friends on other teams who were suffering from bad managers. So I think it depends on the team and management you are in. I was fortunate.

Pros: My first team had good team and company processes. I learned a lot. No OT (sometimes I did, but it was totally voluntary), and friendly colleagues.

This means longer time to release code, more documentation for code changes, etc. I have also heard from friends on other teams who were suffering from bad managers. So I think it depends on the team and management you are in. I was fortunate.

Cons: Toxic environment, from senior management on down. Not worth it.
