Pros

The people on your team are usually great people. You bond over happy hour about how silly the company is.

Cons

In my time there, I only received one pay raise despite receiving high reviews from my managers. My first manager warned me that they don't offer raises and gave me a higher salary compared to my skill level (fresh from college). Even knowing the salary that my manager had in mind, they tried to low-ball me by 20k.

Advice to Management

Invest in your employees. If you don't pay high performers competitively, they will use the company as a stepping stone for other opportunities.

Tech managers should have technical backgrounds so that they can share their expertise with newer employees.
