Because it is so formal, no one is asking about your weekend, family, personal life, etc. Which, personally, is a pro for me. People want to work hard.
Most teams work outside of 9-5 and expect you to do the same without any pre-planning. There's lots going on with very poor communication between teams, causing lots of last-minute emergencies.
