Junior Front End Developer IV Interview Experience - Minneapolis, Minnesota

December 1, 2020
Neutral ExperienceNo Offer

Process

I haven't gotten an offer yet, so I'm setting "no" for now. They said they would get back to me in a couple of days.

I figured it would be helpful to write this while it's fresh in my mind. I'm setting the rating at neutral because they scheduled the interview weeks in advance, but I did not receive the interview/video link until an hour before the interview. I was going through a contracting agency and had asked for it multiple times in the days leading up to the interview. It gave me an impression they are unorganized to a degree.

Interview format:

  • 5-10 minutes for overview and introductions
  • 20 minutes for culture and way-of-working questions
  • 20 minutes HackerRank challenge
  • 10 minutes wrap-up questions

Questions

STAR questions:

  1. Tell me about a time you completed a task outside of your authority.

  2. Tell me about a time you had a disagreement with a co-worker and how it was resolved.

The coding test was a HackerRank question sent during the interview. I shared my screen and talked through what I was doing. I was able to get it working, minus some outlying cases.

I will paraphrase the question. It was called goodSegment.

Write a function that takes three inputs: an upper bound, a lower bound, and then an array of "badNumbers". The function should iterate through a range starting at the lower bound and iterating through the upper bound. Count the number of consecutive numbers until you land on a number that matches one of the numbers in the "badNumbers" array. The function should return the count of the largest value of consecutive good numbers throughout the range. For example, if the lower bound is 2, the upper bound is 10, and the bad numbers are [2, 4], the largest set of consecutive good numbers would be 5-10. So the function should return 5.
