Pros
  • Flexible vacation days.
  • Standing desks are awesome.
  • Coffee machines.
Cons

Nothing serious concerns, just some common things and a little bit not well organized.

Details:

  • It could be project-dependent, but generally, you really feel the difference working from Budapest versus New York. All decisions happen in New York or London. You can't really feel involved here in Budapest.
  • Depending on the project, you need to be really lucky in Budapest to work on some modern stacks or cloud.
  • Mandatory 3 days per week in the office seems unnecessary. There's a really complicated and rigid process for working from home if you are sick (you need to take sick days, which require a doctor's visit if you're not feeling well). Also, you cannot really work 1-1 week from another country.
  • Overall, the office is a negative experience: The office is not practical considering how new it is. There are meeting rooms which cannot be closed because they have no doors, so it's not too private. The air conditioning or fans are really loud. There are not enough restrooms for men (the same amount for women, despite many fewer women in the office). We don't have a real water boiling machine in the office. Small mugs for tea and pod coffee machines are not a sustainable solution. Lots of doors inside the same floor, so you need to swipe your card multiple times. There are some kitchen areas which are really close to the desks without any separation. I can imagine how that could be to work there. Many empty parking spaces, but you need to pay for them.
  • No good team events in Budapest.
Advice to Management

Budapest should be more involved in higher-level plans and decisions. More cutting-edge projects should be moved to Budapest. An office manager should work to make the office more practical.
