Tool deficiencies and processes often bring you down. Being a financial institution, there's a lot of red tape for technologists. There's a single path of career for software developers, which means a transition to people and project management roles.
Put more resources into fixing day-to-day tools used by software developers. Think about the potential of other career paths for technologists other than the one with the "Peter's principle" line.
