I applied for TBD, a subsidiary of Block. I had an initial technical screen, which went very well and lasted 60 minutes. I was able to solve the problem within the allotted time and had a positive experience.
The subsequent round, a 30-minute call with the hiring manager, proved more challenging. The hiring manager asked me very few questions, instead focusing on describing the company and inquiring about my interest in their work. I confirmed my interest. After what seemed like a positive conversation, I received a rejection email the following morning.
I asked the recruiter for feedback on my rejection and was told I was "too inexperienced" for the role, despite having over 14 years in the industry and no questions about my experience during the previous interview.
The recruiter then suggested I apply for a different role within the company, but warned I would have to restart the entire application process. After selecting a similar role, one whose skillset more closely matched my experience than the Platform Engineer position, I was again informed that I needed to consider a less experienced role.
I then chose a final, less senior position and was subsequently ghosted.
