Process
The interview process involved the following stages:
- A routine first phone screener interview.
- An option for either a take-home project (a week to complete) or a technical interview.
- A follow-up phone conversation.
- An in-person code and information interview (full day).
It was a very positive and enjoyable experience.
Everyone was very nice and eager to meet and discuss all things Square.
At the end of the whole process, they offered me a follow-up to discuss areas of success and improvement. I very much respect the company and look forward to applying again in the future.

Pros: There is a lot of room for innovation. Depending on your team/org, bottom-up initiatives are well supported.
Cons: There are a lot of changes (org, product related) as the company is going through a transformation from being a mid-size company to a large one.

Pros: Square has tons of great people in engineering, branding, customer support, and most parts of the organization, really. Furthermore, there is a culture of working together across organizational boundaries and a collaborative mindset.
Cons: The constant reorgs and uncertainty about career paths and expectations reflect growing pains, to be sure. They might also reflect a cultural, deliberate practice of not getting set in their ways. But it can be hard to understand what you're supposed to do, how long until the next big change, and who is supposed to keep what running, as management is thinking of loftier things.
