Software Engineer, New Grad Interview Experience

November 1, 2013
Negative ExperienceNo Offer

Process

Applied through career website.

Got an email several days later and was asked for an online code challenge, then a Skype interview.

The interviewer set up an online environment. He would compile our code on his own laptop and tell you where the problem is.

I coded the question smoothly by using a stack instead of recursion. I believed I answered the question without a mistake, then got rejected with no reason.

Really confused about their selection policy. I bet is that they are more looking for a culture fit, or there is no head count at the end of the year.

Questions

Write code to find the largest connected section of a matrix.

X X X X O X

This would return 5, since there are 5 connected Xs.

X O X O O X X O X

This would return 4, since there are 4 connected Os.
