The environment is very professional and can be serious (we are dealing with people's money, information, and well-being).
At the same time, everyone does a great job of making it fun and enjoyable. I think this is a tough balance to strike, but Square does it well.
The engineers work very hard and are protective of the quality of work and coworkers.
The discussions (on the record and off) are very insightful about everything from payments, engineering, and life.
Company meetings and transparency are informative and motivating.
The size of the company can be daunting. There are a lot of people, and Square is growing.
There are and have been some growing pains caused from scaling a startup into a large company.
