Financial Software Developer Interview Experience - New York, New York

Process

Initially, there was a C++ skills test. I had completed enough free Brainbench C/C++ tests, which really helped me a lot. In fact, I noticed some of the questions were identical to those from the Brainbench tests, and I even remembered some of the answers.

Each test had 40 questions, and I had 3 minutes for each question. I did well and, as expected, got a call for a phone technical screening in C++.

The phone screening was almost 30 minutes long and covered questions about:

  • Static members in classes
  • Static global variables in multiple files
  • Virtual destructors
  • Multithreading
  • Big-endian and little-endian formats

I could answer some but not all of the questions, and that was it. I didn't get any further calls. :(

Questions

What is the difference between reentrant and thread-safe functions?

What is the difference between static global and normal global variables?

Was this helpful?
