Process
First was a conversation with the Talent Acquisition person, to talk about the experience on the resume.
The onsite was a 5-hour session that included:
- A LeetCode problem with a pair of developers
- A React problem
- System design
Everyone was very nice and courteous. I was extremely nervous during the interview, but they were able to guide me through it. While I didn't get an offer, I would definitely go through their interview cycle again.

System Design - Design an application that can send ads to users based on the content of their emails.

Good Benefits, Stuck On Legacy

Pros: Great benefits, get treated like a person, flexible schedule, great installations – the list goes on.
Cons: You can be trapped working on legacy projects that do not help your career as a marketable engineer.
You might be on-call many times during the year.
You need to interview with other teams, just as you would interview with any other company.
I was sitting near top leadership, and they never said good morning, not even once.

Innovative Tech, Stifled Feedback

Pros: The generational company is one of the best success stories on Wall Street and probably in NYC over the past 30 years. A unique mix of finance and technology, it still does not seem to be having any kind of identity crisis, and is able to merge both worlds seamlessly. Technologically, it is not given enough credit for having built a client-server model before anyone else commercialized it. It homegrown numerous enterprise-level products like databases, telemetry, deployment systems, rollbacks, and tons of innovations. Genuinely cares about employees.
Cons: The personal trading policy is strict, considering 99.99% of employees have no access to any non-public information.
The company is famous for its flat structure, but skip-level communication is lacking. Any escalation, including impersonal team-level constructive feedback, is sent back to the manager with not much anonymity. So, it's basically stifling and discouraging any skip-level positive feedback loop.
Because there is a very tight lid on salaries and Bloomberg is a private company, there is random variance in salary across teams and groups.
