Pros

The amount one gets paid for each hour worked is good.

Cons

Limited growth opportunities into management or the next level.

There's a "buddy system" among managers, making it hard for engineers to break into management roles.

Also, this new "non-sense" of equity and diversity makes it harder for merit-based individuals to climb the ladder compared to others with intangible skills, which often amounts to fluff and a weakness in engineering (the core skill set).

Advice to Management

By promoting equity, diversity, and a buddy system among managers, senior managers/directors are not letting deserving talent grow. This is an engineering company, not a communication or marketing company, so give some importance to core engineering skills. A mediocre engineer will not become a good manager, even if you promote such people to senior roles. Think about it. A manufacturer of a defective product will try to blame the marketing team (Boeing is behaving this way).
