First, the initial call with the recruiter was moved twice. While this was understandable and I didn't pay it much attention, the impression I got was that the recruiter was not competent and didn't know what they were looking for. The questions were abstract, as if reading from a list: "How familiar are you with relative/absolute positioning?" "How familiar are you with HTML?" What do you expect to hear from a candidate? "Yes, I am familiar, I feel comfortable with that"?
Alright. Since my previous experience was in a B2B company that per se doesn't have a million daily users, the recruiter had to "check with someone else if they can proceed with the next steps, because at Booking.com they are handling millions of users per day." Fair enough. However, this is not a backend position for me to handle a huge load of millions of requests; it is a frontend position. Therefore, I expected questions more relevant to my knowledge and expertise.
The recruiter promised to check and get back to me in 1-2 days. Almost a month has passed since then, and I've never heard back. Sending a template email "Sorry, we will not be moving your application forward" takes one minute. Show some respect to your candidates!
Very disappointed.
