Process
HR screen, 45 minutes with an engineering director, take-home assignment, and an all-day technical and culture fit interview. Overall, the process was extremely thoughtful and well-planned. All of my interviewers were familiar with my resume, and when we worked on my take-home assignment, the developers I worked with were already familiar with my approach.
Questions
The take-home assignment was to extend a Rails and React app utilizing the Calendly API.
Technical assessments included system design, extension of the take-home assignment, and bug fix pairing. Front-end and back-end skills were assessed.

Pros: The compute platform/infra team is amazing and working on incredibly cool things.
Cons: Architecture oversees applications, causing downstream ramifications for all Engineering.
The CEO runs Engineering through proxy people.

Awful leaders, but great peers

Pros: The ICs and line-managers here are wonderful people. Kind, student/teacher types, humble, pragmatic folks.
The pay is good enough. The product is interesting and enjoyable to work on. We have a great historic remote culture. Brand recognition feels nice.
Some of our leaders are very smart, many, many individuals are too, but the new direction in senior leaders is concerning...
Cons: There are a few leaders that have joined in the last year that have worked hard to make the culture really bad. They try to accomplish goals by use of intimidation, bullying, blaming, pinging all hours of the day, and with hardly a shred of humility, decency, and treating people with respect. These are not work conditions in which people can be creative or do good work. I worry they will drive too many good people away before they realize the damage they're doing.

Pros: Having Calendly on my résumé somehow does not hurt my job search. They have done a good job seeming like an awesome company externally.
Cons: No one in the company can make a decision or buy a stapler unless the CEO approves it. He runs the company like it’s a small business pawn shop where every dollar to an employee is a dollar out of his own pocket. Employees to him are not human beings; they are widgets to drive his earnings, which equal take-home pay for him.
