Process

It was a terrible experience!

First, a recruiter will call you and schedule a Skype interview for two weeks later. Initially, the recruiter will warn you about the tough and challenging interviews Capgemini is famous for. And exactly the same thing happens during the interview.

I come from a biomedical field and am pursuing a Master's in Bioinformatics, however, I do have 2 to 3 years of experience in Java support with TCS. The height of irrelevant interview questions:

  • What projects did you do in Java during your Master's or Bachelor's?

How is it even possible to think of Java when I am studying biology? OMG! My expression said it all, even after reading my resume, they could ask me this question.

I was expecting questions about:

  • What is Java?
  • Method overloading?
  • Method overriding?
  • Write a simple code in Java?
  • And PL/SQL, which were relevant to the work experience on my resume!

That person never asked me what is on my resume. Well, they asked me like this:

  • What is a dynamic dispatch method? (This is C++ or C# terminology, which in Java means dynamic polymorphism.) Why can't they ask straightforwardly if both mean and work exactly the same way, but in different environments or languages?

Well, that was it, and I was caught off guard by the first question itself.

  • What is RMI?
  • A JSP question. I have never worked with JSP at all.
  • What are virtual methods? (Again, polymorphism, but these are words you won't typically use in Java, so beware and read the Oracle tutorials for Java thoroughly.)
  • How would you make a connection to a database without using a username and password? Passing the password is not secure. How to make a connection?
  • If a client provides you only with HTML pages and says retrieve records through HTML pages and make a database connection, how will you do it?
  • Can the main method be overridden? If not, how to achieve overriding of it? Can a static method be overridden? (This was an easy question, and I was happy.)
  • How to achieve multiple inheritance in Java using classes and not interfaces?
  • Given a subclass and a superclass, which constructor is invoked? What is the output? Hierarchy of constructors?

DO NOT JUST MUG UP the 110 Java interview questions you will find online. Better, read at least one Java book in detail and try to answer questions logically, not just vomit out everything you have mugged up like a parrot 2-3 days before your interview if you come from a non-computer science background.

Answer all questions strategically. Because if they catch you on one of your questions, they will tear you apart, cross-question you, and confuse you.
