Pros
  • Generally low-pressure environment
  • Excellent work/life balance
  • Decent training opportunity, if not always ultimately relevant to your project
  • Decent starting salary for a Graduate
Cons
  • Experience depends greatly on the project you are put on.
  • Some projects have a lot of red tape, especially government projects requiring security clearance. This involves a lot of hassle and waiting around.
  • It can be difficult to get off the bench at the start.
  • Often starts slow.
  • Pay progression is slow. It depends on how well you work the review process, which doesn't always represent your full achievements.
  • There is a steep learning curve, with not much onboarding help. You are expected to find your feet by yourself.
  • Potential to have very long commutes (up to 90 minutes each way) for projects just outside London.
  • Some office environments are quite glum or have an open layout, which is not conducive to focused work.
Advice to Management

Provide a more detailed explanation of company structure and how to get on desired projects at the start.

Reconsider the review process.

Reconsider the base office layout. An open plan doesn't suit all people, only those who need to collaborate. Have some quieter work areas as well.
