If you end up in a dead project and you have nowhere else to go, then you might end up doing a role that you would not want to progress in your career.
Upper management does not recognize talented junior talents. A lot of good engineers find out they are not compensated very well and leave. Salary is below average in the market, and there is no bonus until you get to a more senior level.
