The first step was an hour-long online Glider test, with around 26 questions mostly focused on AWS and DevOps. I was expecting more Data Engineer questions than DevOps questions, but I cleared that test.
The next round was a Zoom video interview with the Capital One Hiring Manager. This is when things started to go south. He was one of the most awful interviewers I've ever met. His approach seemed to be to prove that I was a counterfeit candidate. I was not happy with his demeanor. There are ample ways to evaluate the caliber of an interviewee. He should have at least remembered that I passed their first round online test with live video streaming.
Then, he started asking questions that sounded more like a lie detector test. As engineers, we run tons of code, and no one memorizes all the command-line switches and parameters. We look them up as needed. He wanted me to orate all the parameters verbally. At this point, I called it out, stating that this is not how an engineer codes in the real world.
