Lead Software Engineer Interview Experience - New York, New York

Process

I had a brief discussion with a recruiter from Hired who reached out to me. I felt the process was discriminatory against my immigrant status.

There were no stated requirements for US citizenship or any kind of clearance, yet the recruiter pressed very hard to understand the exact nature of my immigration status, right down to visa type, EAD type, and so on.

Ultimately, he cut the interview short and said the decision was with their legal department on whether they would move forward or not.

I'm used to companies only asking, "Are you authorized to work in the US?" not, "Are you authorized to work in the US? Are you a US citizen or visa recipient? Oh, you have an EAD? What type?"

There are many companies out there, and I personally would not apply to this one again based on this discriminatory reasoning alone.
