I applied online on December 30, 2020. During the first week of January 2021, I received a call from a recruiter. We had a general discussion about my background, education, and experience. The recruiter also explained the role, location, and work culture.

Following this call, the recruiter sent me a HackerRank coding test. It contained two coding questions and I had 8 hours to complete it. I successfully completed both coding questions within 2 hours. All test cases passed, the code compiled, and it was submitted. Note: Passing all test cases is very important.

Within two weeks of the HackerRank coding exercise, Capital One decided to move forward with further interviews. I was scheduled to attend PowerDay interviews, which consisted of four rounds. Due to COVID-19, these interviews were conducted virtually. Each round lasted for 45 minutes.

Round 1: Technical Coding Interview During this round, the interviewer asked me to code using my favorite programming language. The interviewer presented a problem: "Given an array, find two elements whose sum is closest to zero." It was a straightforward problem, and I was able to code a solution. Afterward, the interviewer asked me to improve the code for better time complexity. Before I could finish, time was up, and the interviewer decided to proceed to Q&A.

Round 2: System Design, Debugging, and Analysis Interview In this round, the interviewer asked me to design a system for adding employee information, such as name. The interviewer then asked questions about various debugging skills, including how I would handle and triage an OutOfMemory issue.

Round 3: Behavioral Questions During this round, I was asked several behavioral questions, which I answered using the STAR approach. The questions were simple and based on day-to-day work scenarios.

Round 4: Case Interview For this interview, the interviewer presented a case: "Capital One recently acquired another online bank. What would be the benefits for Capital One from both business and technical perspectives?" I discussed the case thoroughly with the interviewer from both business and technical viewpoints.

Within two days of the PowerDay interviews, the recruiter called to inform me that Capital One was willing to offer me a job. The recruiter then scheduled an interview with the actual hiring manager. This was a 30-minute call for us to get acquainted and learn about the team environment at Capital One.

After the interview with the Hiring Manager, I received the offer letter within a day, and then background checks commenced.

The entire interview process was seamless and hassle-free. I also had an interview with Amazon during the same period I was interviewing with Capital One, but I preferred the Capital One interview process.
