Process

Recruiter Phone Interview (15 mins)

Online Assessment (2 hours):

  • 3 LeetCode-type questions (easy-medium-medium).

Power Day:

  • Interviewers had thick accents but were usually friendly at the beginning of the call.
  • There were 4 Indian interviewers; it didn't seem like they were all working from the USA.
  • Coding question: LeetCode-type, involving writing a function to find two numbers in an array that sum to zero.
  • System Design (Walmart): Focus on UI, database, availability, scalable system, infrastructure, and database design for a given topic. The interviewer repeatedly asked "how does the data travel in your system?" in a vague manner, which felt like a yellow flag (he was also working while talking). I questioned if he could understand my English responses.
  • Case Study (by a female interviewer): A business case focused on testing costs and how cost-prohibitive testing is to each department. Given a piece of code and data, explain and debug.
  • Behavioral: 3 questions on "tell me about a time..."; research past questions on Glassdoor.

Follow-up:

  • After a week, the recruiter messaged for a "catch-up call." I responded with a request for feedback via email.
  • In general, if the recruiter schedules a short call one or more weeks later or ghosts you after the interview, interpret that as a rejection.
  • I received a general rejection email with no actionable feedback. If they want you, they will get back to you quickly.

Observations:

  • There seemed to be inappropriate bias in the interview process based on ethnicity (brown vs. white).
  • They claim to grade candidates on results-driven, respect, embracing change and diversity (woke culture), and adaptability, but this sounds like "BS." Luck plays a key role.
