Process

I was first reached out to by a recruiter via email. They informed me that the process involved an initial interview, followed by team introductions. Consequently, I had no clear understanding of the specific team or role I was interviewing for. This lack of clarity was the only significant drawback I perceived in the interview process.

It's a fairly typical interview process, beginning with a coding screen and then a "power day" comprising four rounds. The coding screen was conducted on CodeSignal. I spent a week familiarizing myself with CodeSignal; they offer a new practice test daily for free.

The power day consisted of four one-hour rounds. Typically, these rounds do not utilize the full hour, leaving ample time for questions. The interview process was quite opaque; senior-level managers conducted the interviews, and they were not part of the same location or department for which I was interviewing. As a result, I didn't actually meet my team or hiring manager until after I had passed the interview.

The interview rounds included system design, a coding question, a case interview, and a behavioral assessment. I believe the case interview was the only format I hadn't encountered before. It focused on a business perspective, such as analyzing how adding a specific feature would benefit the company and its consumers. This proved to be the most challenging round for me. It was divided equally between business logic questions and reading code to suggest improvements.

For the coding question, HackerRank was used as the IDE, so passing test cases was not a requirement. I was given a hardcoded input and asked to print the solution. I was only questioned on how I would handle specific edge cases; I did not have to implement them. I dedicated two weeks to reviewing common LeetCode questions.

Overall, I consider it a good interview process. However, I truly wish I had known the specific role beforehand. I was hoping for a full-stack position, but only a backend role was available at my location. While the recruiter implied I would have a choice of teams, I was essentially presented with only one option.
