I completed a HackerRank coding challenge followed by an onsite interview. The onsite consisted of a "technical" interview and a fit/behavioral interview.
The "technical" interview was unusual. The interviewer, a senior software engineer, asked me to walk through my HackerRank challenge code. Afterward, she questioned me on every bullet point listed on my resume.
For instance, I had mentioned working with SQL two years prior. She then asked me to write a detailed SQL query. Next, she requested I reverse a string.
However, early in the string reversal, she interrupted me to ask about the difference between StringBuilder and StringBuffer. At the time, I didn't know the difference and explained I had only used StringBuilder. After the interview, I researched it and discovered they perform the same function, with the key difference being thread safety.
I asked if she wanted me to finish the string reversal, but she declined.
She then moved on to a question about a series of Git commands for a specific task. I recall mentioning the rebase command, which seemed to confuse her. I had to explain the difference between rebase and merge.
Overall, the interview felt very disorganized.
