Management is taking some steps in the right direction to become more technology-forward. Capital One also has the funds to move in that direction and has an overall good company vision. The overall work environment was also inviting and balanced.
Unfortunately, the implementation of the technology bank vision is poor. The company is wasting money hiring way too many engineers at a low bar. These engineers are then managed by non-technical managers for projects that are then randomly killed with poor leadership synchronization.
Stop hiring engineers so fast. Instead of hiring two okay engineers, just hire one great one and pay them the salary of two. Maybe then you'll be able to compete with other tech company salaries.
Overall, the vision to "compete with technology companies rather than banks" is good, but after seeing how it's implemented, Capital One won't be able to do that in the near future.
