Pros

It's a mutually supportive corporate culture. It's a big company with a lot of complexity and inter-team dependencies, so you find yourself constantly asking questions and seeking answers.

This is invariably well and helpfully received.

Also, it's a company that takes diversity, inclusion, and belonging seriously.

Cons

The twice-yearly Performance Management rituals, in which we work to satisfy attrition targets by putting 10-15% of employees (depending on job level) on PIPs based on stack ranking—not necessarily on truly poor performance—are a huge drain on morale, especially for people leaders.

Advice to Management

Capital One is a data-driven company. If there is data showing that certain (high) levels of attrition are required for a healthy organization, then share that data. Otherwise, it feels like a cruel article of faith.
