Process
The interview process was pretty easy.
It involved a Java test, followed by a one-hour interview. This interview was split into two parts:
- 30 minutes for behavioral questions
- 30 minutes for a single medium-difficulty technical problem.
I received an offer a week later.

Mismanagement at its worst
Engineer III • Former Employee
Boston, Massachusetts, United States
June 20, 2019
Pros: Fast-paced company, so there is quite a potential for learning opportunities.
Opportunity to work with the latest technology stack.
Cons: 1. No respect for employees' work-life balance.
2. Projects are thrown at employees randomly with aggressive deadlines, which obviously calls for working over the weekends and late nights. It's part of Chewy culture.
3. Higher management has its favorites, so promotions are based on closeness with higher-ups than real work.
4. The company discourages work from home, so many folks spend good time commuting than actually working.

Pros: Choosing to work at Chewy has been the single best career move in my 35+ year working career. Employee centric, Diversity & Inclusivity, Fun!, Animal Lovers (all kinds), and Obsessed with providing our customers a world-class experience. My career will continue to grow at Chewy, and I am abso-woofly over-the-moon about it!
Cons: Chewy is growing at a considerably fast pace and hiring for many roles. In the past, much hiring has been external versus internal promotion. Chewy is working to build a good career path model for employees, and I look forward to seeing it come to life.
