Pros

Banking systems are notoriously outdated and antiquated, so it’s nice to work in a space that feels like it could really benefit from software.

Pay and benefits are good.

Cons

Priorities and ownership change every quarter, so folks are never incentivized to build for a long-term vision, as they usually won’t own what they built for long. It will either get thrown away or transferred to another team.

Leadership mandates things like RTO without any data to back it up (the CEO has said, “I don’t need data to know working in person is better”). There have also been several silent layoffs that execs try to avoid announcing, after explicitly saying we aren't doing layoffs.

Overall, there is a lot of dissatisfaction with the lack of transparency and disingenuousness from leadership. They say the company values one thing and then does the exact opposite.

The People team changes how performance reviews are done every cycle, which makes it impossible to navigate career growth. Managers are stretched too thin to know what’s going on and are incentivized on creating perceptions of shipping. As a result, a few high performers carry the team, and low performers fly under the radar.

Advice to Management

Rely on data and facts to make decisions.

Be receptive to feedback about what’s working and what isn’t.

Hold people accountable for their work.

Act in ways congruent with our priorities.
