Great to work with, but the uncertainty
Senior Software Engineer • Former Employee
San Jose, California, United States
February 10, 2017
Pros: Empowered employees and transparent executive management are a definite plus. The ability to work from home is accommodating, too.
Cons: Frequent layoffs and restructuring create a lot of uncertainty. Adopting new technologies through acquisition is a good strategy, but loyal employees are sometimes left behind. There are not enough activities promoting good work/life balance. Team-building events and tournaments (soccer, etc.) could be helpful.

Cisco might be a good company for an inexperienced engineer to start their career, but not a place to stay longer
Senior Software Engineer • Former Employee
San Jose, California, United States
October 16, 2014
Pros: This company would hire inexperienced, newly graduated college students and give them the chance to choose groups and teams to work with.
Cons: In Cisco, half of the people are contributing, and the other half are blocking others from contributing to the company. There are various internal wars. Some people survive there well only by complimenting others, rather than contributing. Also, some technical leaders do not qualify for their jobs, and they twist other developers to follow their ideas to earn credits for themselves.
