Questions

Telephonic Round (1 hour):

  • Mostly about previous projects.
  • Some technical questions based on the projects.

Telepresence Rounds:

1st Round:

  • Discussed about projects.
  • Five railway stations (A, B, C, D, E) exist. The train travels only in the forward direction. Given ticket costs between any two stations, all positive, how do you find the minimum cost ticket between two stations?
    • I provided a recursive algorithm.
    • An alternative, improved solution is a bottom-up approach; I wrote that algorithm later.

2nd Round:

  • TCP/IP protocol layers. Provide protocols for each layer.
  • Preamble bits. Purpose?
  • ARP protocol.
  • When does a switch broadcast packets?
  • Difference between TCP and UDP.
  • How TCP connection establishment happens.
  • Program to convert from little-endian to big-endian.
  • What are the different areas in the address space of a process?
  • Where are global variables, static variables, malloc memory, and local variables allocated within these areas?
  • Volatile variable. Its purpose.

3rd Round:

  • Virtual memory.
  • Kernel space vs. user space.
  • Paging.
  • Segmentation.
  • Interrupt context vs. process context.
  • DMA.
  • How do you determine if a machine is little-endian or big-endian?
  • About projects.

4th Round:

  • What are your strengths?
  • What are your weaknesses?
  • Why should we hire you?
  • Explained about their work and asked: "What technical knowledge do you bring to the team if we hire you?"
  • Salary expectations.
  • Are you willing to relocate?

The HR process was very slow. HR initially said I cleared the tech interviews and they were interested in extending an offer. Later, there was no communication from them regarding the offer. After making 3 to 4 calls to HR, they informed me about the lack of an offer. Although the tech interviews were good, the unresponsiveness of HR led to an overall negative experience.
