Appraisals usually do not reflect performance, although the hikes are good enough, even though the ratings aren't that great. There is not much emphasis on work-life balance.
Nothing much, except to encourage some amount of research at lower levels as well.
Not required to specifically force people into it, but allow those who want to graduate to these levels.
